Family members of martyred Captain Najam Riaz have made a shocking disclosure about the alleged involvement of an important administrative official of Malakand in the killing of four SSG commandos at the hands of Taliban last week.

captain-najamThe heroic tale of brave commandos reveals how the valiant soldiers had broken the necks of eight Taliban, once they realised that they were about to be beheaded. The mother of Shaheed Captain Najam told The News while sitting in her village house, amid tears in her eyes, that she would have even sacrificed ten sons for the sake of Pakistan and she was proud of her 24-year old son, who before going to Swat had told her not to weep over her body as he knew he was going on a journey of martyrdom.

“Our Shaheed captain told that the important official of Malakand had come to meet the Taliban when they were in their possession. The official considered to be darling of the Taliban had told his friends to keep the four SSG commandos with them but return their weapons”, one of the family members of the martyred Captain told The News.

The Crime

guns

As I drove to his house, my mind kept going back to thoughts about him.I hadn’t heard from him for days, in fact no one had. He hadn’t been seen out of his home since the “war” had begun. It is funny how the media can turn a feud into a war and a war into a feud…

When I reached his mansion, I was surprised to see none of his fleet of servants around. The thick layer of dust on his cars Read the rest of this entry »

Inspiration from Young Pakistanis

19trash6002

However depressing the situation of Pakistan may seem to be, the young generation continues to give whatever they can to nurture their homeland. Cursing the darkness is easy, but lighting a candle in darkness is a rare courage, and this is the very thing that sets our Pakistani youth apart. I read this very inspiring story in New York Times today about young Pakistanis in Lahore who decided to take one problem into their own hands and see what they could do about it. Here’s the complete story:

by Sabrina Tavernise

LAHORE, Pakistan — The idea was simple, but in Pakistan, a country full of talk and short on action, it smacked of rebellion.

A group of young Pakistani friends, sick of hearing their families complain about the government, decided to spite them by taking matters into their own hands: every Sunday they would grab shovels, go out into their city, and pick up garbage.

It was a strange thing to do, particularly for such students from elite private schools, who would normally spend Sunday afternoons relaxing in air-conditioned homes.

But the students were inspired by the recent success of the lawyers’ movement, which used a national protest to Read the rest of this entry »

Swat Crisis: A Plea for Help

swat

Pakistan is yet again in a state of war. The horrifying situation in the northern areas of Pakistan seems to be getting intense day by day as the military forces make rapid advancement towards ‘eliminating’ Taliban.  There is no clue as to what might be the outcome of the war, but millions of people already have left their homes in search of a safer shelter as a repercussion. According to a UN report, this internal displacement from Malakand Division has broken a fifteen year international record.

It is truly sickening to see millions of our people being homeless and dispirited, without adequate food and shelter. The government has provided relief camps but is insufficient for population of this magnitude. What is needed at the moment is that every Pakistani extends his hand and heart to those in need. The national spirit, unity and valor, which we all witnessed after the earthquake of Oct ’05, is what Pakistan needs at the time.
