President Musharraf shall be addressing the nation today at 1 pm and it is being largely speculated that he might step down after justifying the actions of his nine years tenure. If he doesn’t, he will be impeached. Either way, time’s up for Musharraf.
He has been given time for a ‘safe exit’ by the coalition government and that makes one think if they have finally struck up a deal. According to the PML-N spokesperson, the process of impeachment will began by Tuesday at latest. Until then Musharraf can weigh his options of either gracefully stepping down or brace himself to face the charge sheet which has been drafted by mutual consent of our lately-united leaders. Here’s an excerpt from a Daily Times editorial that has shed light on the nature of the charge sheet if it ever makes to the Parliament:
The gist of the charges to which the media was made privy on Friday night are as follows: (1) military coup against the elected government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999; (2) suspension of the Constitution twice and aggression against the judiciary, on March 9, 2007 and on Nov 3, 2007; (3) indifference to the constitutional requirement of annual address to parliament; (4) making the NFC award to the provinces without consulting them; (5) military operation in Balochistan and target-killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti; (6) military operation on Lal Masjid; and (7) “missing persons” and their extradition to the United States, and the Damadola attack.
Impeachment is no light matter, specially when it is carried out by a self-serving government which took six months to take the first step towards democracy after being elected for the very purpose. Little, though, there is to suggest that they are doing this with regard to the nation’s sentiments.
Its consequences, whatever they may be, will concern the nation at large. If carried out properly, it must serve as an admonition, a warning to future ‘land holders’ against misconduct and embezzlement. They must know, and they must be taught not to treat the nation when and as they like to.

they have already got the new goverment in their control n they will follow int he same footsteps if not worse

I think that’s the worst thing to happen to pakistan. Mush was the best thing to happen and now look what has happened…there is a possibility of Zardari becoming a prez! that’s the scariest thing ever!
